Residents of Girgaum are a happy lot, till last week they were complaining on social media that filth was allegedly lying unattended in Girgaum, however, BMC has immediately swung into action and cleaned the garbage. The unattended garbage also had led to a scuffle between the BJP and the Shiv Sena, where Sena members came out with posters complaining that the garbage was lying unattended and blamed local BJP leaders for it. However, BMC officials claim they had cleaned the garbage long ago, and on a regular basis, they clean public spots.
Gaurav Sagwekar, a Shiv Sena activist, had alleged that garbage wasn't picked from their area and it had been lying there for more than 22 days. "The BMC finally picked all of it and cleaned the area, but it was only after regular protests online and after we distributed posters. However, now they have cleaned it and we have no complaints, but they should be vigil about it."
The BMC claims that they had cleaned the area long ago and didn't wait for any complaint. "We clean the area regularly, and even the spot that is being spoken about was cleaned last week. We clean all public spots on a regular basis," said VP Mote, the assistant municipal commissioner of D ward.
According to locals, filth and debris were lying in a house gulley, and because of ongoing work, people kept dumping debris. However, BMC claims that they are regularly cleaning the area and even house gullies.
