Ramesh Korgaonkar was elected as Standing Committee chairman and Shubhada Gudekar was elected as Education Committee chairperson of the BMC
Chairpersons of Standing Committee and the Education Committee were elected unopposed on Tuesday. Ramesh Korgaonkar was elected as Standing Committee chairman and Shubhada Gudekar was elected as Education Committee chairperson of the BMC.
While, Korgaonkar, four term corporator was elected unopposed as chairman of Standing Committee since no nomination was filed by neither BJP nor Congress, Shubhada Gudekar too was elected unopposed as a chairperson of Education Committee.
Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar who was the presiding officer at the Standing Committee and the Education Committee announced the names in the respective committee elections.
Korgaonkar, corporator from Bhandup's ward 104, has been winning from his constituency since 2002 and this is his fourth consecutive term. He has been a member of the standing committee for the past seven years. After taking over as chairman, Korgaonkar pointed out issues like vehicular pollution, erratic water supply, urgent need of tree plantation across the city.
Subhada Gudekar had won the corporation election in the year 2002, 2007, and in 2017. She has also served as Health Committee chairperson in 2009 - 2010. After taking the charge, Gudekar said that her first priority will be looking into factors leading to decreasing numbers of Marathi medium students and will address the issue. She also said that stress would be given on putting extra efforts for SSC students and increase their percentage and quality of education in civic schools
Meanwhile, Anil Kokil, ex BEST employee of the BEST Undertaking has filed his nomination for the chairman's post. Kokil had resigned from his job to fight civic election from Shiv Sena ticket from ward 204 Lalbaug. He served BEST Undertaking for 36 years. For Improvement Committee chairman's post Shiv Sena's two term corporator from ward number 77 in Jogeshwari East.
