The police on Sunday found a blood-stained Solapur blanket in the bushes at Kharland in Bhandup (East), 3 kms from the spot where 23-year-old commuter engineer Esther Anuhya’ body was found.

The blanket was found three days after Anuhya’s body was found in a secluded area near Bhandupeshwar Kund on Service Road at Bhandup (East) on January 16.

The police suspected the blanket was Anuhya’s and have sent the blanket to FSL at Kalina for a chemical analysis.

“The sniffer dog was press into service but it did not yield any result,” said a police officer of Kanjurmarg police station.

The low quality Sholapur chader is usually used by auto-rickshaw drivers, to keep it below their driving seat or cover their body during the night while driving their auto, said the officer.

The Kanjurmarg police formed a team of 15 police officers to solved the case and have questioned more than 70 autorickshaw and taxi drivers playing during the night from LTT Kurla.

VN Tungare, senior police inspector of Kanjurmarg police station, said: “We are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm whether the victim was raped before being murdered. We are also waiting for the report from FSL.”

Anuhya was an employee of Tata Consultancy Services in Goregaon since September 2012. She had gone to her native place in Krishna district in AP to spend her Christmas vacation. She returned to Mumbai on January 5 but she did not reach her hostel in Andheri. Her burnt and decomposed body was found in a secluded area on January 16.
