Absconding tout Nafees alias Nikhil who posed himself as professor of the Mumbai Univeristy is being suspected to have trapped many girls from the university campus for getting money and establishing physical relations with the victims who came to him for help considering him as a faculty member. On Friday night, the Bandra Kurla Complex police registered second FIR against him after another victim filed a complaint.
The police has now intensified the lookout notice for Nafees. Nafees introduced himself as a full time faculty from the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) campus of the university and trapped girls who came from a poor financial background and who are were not good in their academics. Nafees who has already been charged by the BKC police for outraging modesty of a woman and cheating under two previous lodged complaints against him went absconding and since then the police is on a lookout to trace him as early as possible to solve the mystery regarding the type of scam which he was running within and outside the Mumbai university campus.
According to the police, Nafees was operating from the IDOL campus with a girl who is said to be his associate. Nafees used to keep a close watch on the girls coming for admission purposes and other works related to their exams and revaluations of the answer papers. After a complete scanning of the girls, Nafees used to shortlist few of them and then he used to approach those girls and he posed himself as an IDOL professor after which he used to establish a friendly bond gradually. Later, Nafees use to give hoax assurances to the victims claiming that he shall look after their academic issues and if any victim failed in their exams or had issues regarding revaluation of their answer sheets, Nafees would claim to sort those problems.
In a recent complaint lodged against Nafees, the victim has alleged that after Nafees understood the desperate condition of the helpless poor girls, he used to take them at his Vakola based residence where all the victims were provided with an answer paper similar to those issued by the university during exams. Nafees would ask the victims to fill those papers from their residence and for the same, he used to give two days time. When the victims submitted their papers to Nafees, he would then demand money from them despite knowing their financial might and when the victims would refuse then, the he would ask for sexual favors from them.
"Nafees would stress more to establish physical relations and when the victims realized that they have fallen in a trap, it would be too late for them as Nafees would then start blackmailing the victims. It is also suspicious that how Nafees got answer sheets issued by the university and how would he trade them to other students without the knowledge of the university administration." said an officer requesting anonymity.
"The matter is highly sensitive and the police team is conducting the probe. Whatever shall be the necessary help required, the university shall provide to the police. Due to obvious reasons, more details regarding the case cannot be revealed at this stage but the police is investigating the case and finding all possible leads from their side." said Mumbai University spokesperson, Vinod Malale.
"Under the two FIR lodged against the accused, we have booked the accused under section 170, 354, 354(b) and section 420, 419, 342,170,354 of the Indian Penal Code respectively. The investigation is under progress and all possible leads are being probed." said a police officer.
