There is a lot at stake for the MLAs from the Shiv Sena and BJP as the civic elections draw near. While sitting and former MLAs from various parties have been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring their respective candidate's secure victory, the Shiv Sena and BJP have directed their MLAs to take charge of their constituencies by canvassing vigorously.

Shiv Sena's Ravindra Waikar, Minister of State for Housing, Higher and Technical Education and representing Jogeshwari (East), Sunil Prabhu (Dindoshi), Prakash Surve (Borivli) and Ramesh Latke, Andheri (East) have been on the campaign trail in the past month to ensure the party's candidates secure victory. BJP MLAs Manisha Chaudhari, Yogesh Sagar, Atul Bhtakalkar, Ameet Satam, Parag Alavani and Vinod Tawde, have also been attending rallies and meetings to touch base with voters, in addition to discussing poll strategy with BJP Mumbai city President Ashish Shelar.

A majority of the MLAs said they have been racing against time to attend area meetings on Friday night (February 17) and make it for the mahasabha on Saturday evening (February 18). While voters will decide which candidate wins or loses, the future roles of these MLAs in their respective parties is directly linked to the electoral outcome.

The MLAs from across parties are going all out in their respective constituencies to ensure their party candidates win. "I have been entrusted with the responsibility of securing the victory of eight candidates in my constituency, in addition to campaigning for the election in Konkan and Ratnagiri. I have attended 22 meetings for the eight candidates in my constituency, apart from attending other smaller meetings," said Waikar.

Parag Alavani, BJP MLA from Vile Parle, has been entrusted with the responsibility of campaigning for seven candidates from his ward. "Thankfully, my wife Jyoti is a sitting corporator. So, she can campaign for herself. Apart from doing all the legwork, I have attended countless meetings," said Alavani.

Yogesh Sagar, BJP MLA from Kandivli, is responsible for eight candidates in his constituency. "I have already attended 11 meetings today (February 17) with various societies and community groups. "In the past eight days, I have attended more than 60 meetings. I also tap into my contacts to spread the word about the candidates," said Sagar.
