Asking his cadre to work hard to bring the party to power on its own, BJP national president Amit Shah on Thursday hinted at going it alone for the ensuing Mumbai corporation elections.

Shah was in the city to address the review meeting for the Mahasampark Abhiyaan of the party. The meeting was attended by elected representatives of the party from Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat. Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel and Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar did not attend the meeting held at Rangbhavan in Bandra. Interestingly, MLA Raj Purohit, who was in the news for his video criticising the BJP leadership, was present at the meeting. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the gathering after Shah's inaugural speech.

It was during his address at the concluding session in the evening that Shah touched the hearts of one and all. In his address, which lasted for over half an hour, he asked party workers to work hard for bringing the party glory. He cited many examples of past presidents, including late Kushabhau Thakare, who lived simple life dedicating every minute for the interest of the party.

Shah addressed the elected representatives by giving various examples and conveying the party's stand of going it alone for making the party stronger day by day. Expressing unhappiness over the fact that the BJP was forced to share power with the Shiv Sena in the state, Shah said that we would have to work really hard to come to power on our own. While hinting that BJP would like to go it alone in the ensuing Mumbai corporation elections due in February 2017, Shah asked what was the point in winning elections with the help of others.
