The state BJP on Saturday issued a show cause notice to party MLA Raj Purohit, seeking his response over his controversial anti-party comments and jibes against party leaders, which were revealed on Friday after a CD of a sting operation surfaced. Purohit has to submit his explanation within three days.

The show cause notice read that the media had shown the sting video in which Purohit had made the objectionable comments. "These comments are in violation of the party discipline. The explanation has to be submitted in the next three days to party president Raosaheb Danve, failing which disciplinary action will be taken against Purohit," reads the notice.

In the video, Purohit said Modi and Shah are the only ones wielding power in the party and there is no internal democracy left in it. "People talk of collective leadership, but it is simply absent. This is a dangerous sign for the party," he is heard saying.

A former minister and BJP legislator from Colaba, he is one of the aspirants for a ministerial berth in the proposed expansion of the state BJP cabinet.

In his clarification, Purohit has claimed that the voice in the video isn't his and that the CD is baseless. He has demanded that the video be sent for forensic testing. "The purported sting is a deliberate attempt to end my political career. I respect to all my senior party leaders and I have full faith in their leadership. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is the ideal person to lead the state and I am confident that under his leadership Maharashtra will progress.

I spoken with him and explained about the CD. I am a humble worker of the BJP," he added.

The party has been finding itself in the midst of controversies lately, right from education minister Vinod Tawde's alleged fake degree to women and child development minister Pankaja Munde's alleged involvement in the Rs206 crore chikki scam.
