The police on Sunday arrested a businessman for allegedly outraging modesty of a woman inside the posh Gareware Club at Marine Drive. The woman's complaint alleges that the businessman blocked her path and touched her inappropriately. The arrested person has been identified as Bhaven Parekh, 48, a resident of Marine Drive.

According to the police, around 11.30 pm on Saturday, the 34-year-old complainant, a resident of Colaba, went to the club with her husband to have dinner. Parekh, who is known to the victim's husband, was also at the club.

Between 12.15am and 12.30am, when the woman's husband went to the washroom, Parekh was standing near the club's main gate, talking to the duty manager and other persons. "According to the victim, she asked Parekh to give her way so that she could proceed to the ladies' room, but he told her to shut up. When she asked him again, he grabbed her," said an officer from Marine Drive police station.

The woman further said that Parekh was too drunk at the time of the incident so she asked him to leave the place, but Parekh went on to shout at the top of his voice. She then called up the security guards, who took him away. She narrated the entire incident to her husband, police said.

A few minutes later, Parekh returned, and the couple complained to the club manager. Since Parekh was drunk, the manager told him to settle his bill and leave, but he continued to argue with the couple, after which they approached police and lodged a complaint under sections 341 (wrongful restrain) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. "We have arrested Parekh and he is under police custody till Tuesday," the officer said.
