Be it the memorials to Dr Ambedkar at Indu Mills and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Arabian Sea or making Maharashtra toll-free, the Devendra Fadnavis government is struggling to keep its promises.

The state had announced that it would lay the foundation stone of the Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial on Indu Mill premises on April 14, 2015. It had also promised to lay the foundation stone of the Shivaji memorial on February 19, the birth anniversary of the warrior king. On both the occasions, it could only fulfil a part of the tall promises, made before the assembly elections.

As far as Ambedkar memorial is concerned, the CM recently managed to get the nod from Centre with regard to handing over the mill land to the state. In the same way, he has announced that Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar has given vital clearances from his ministry for the Shivaji memorial.

dna tried to get the government's views on this, but didn't get a response from senior ministers like Vinod Tawde (education), Girish Bapat (parliamentary affairs) or Dilip Kamble (social justice). Tawde had been instrumental in acquiring the London House of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Meanwhile, Congress state unit president Ashok Chavan accused the Devendra Fadnavis government of making promises only to gain power. He pointed out that whether it was Ambedkar memorial or the mid-sea Shivaji Maharaj memorial, the government had not kept its promises.

"The government had said it would go for foundation laying of the Ambedkar memorial on April 14 and what we find today is that the chief minister is out of the country. The government is silent on the memorial today."
