The Bhuleshwar Residents' Association (TBRA) on Monday raised the issue of illegal chimneys and hawkers, with the assistant municipal commissioner of C ward, Jivak Geghadmal. Residents said that despite the chief minister's assurance that all chimneys will be removed, the condition remains the same to this day.

"He had said that everything will be removed in 90 days. However, everything has been on paper. They say they have taken action against some 100 chimneys but what has happened is that they have come up again. SC orders says no hawkers near religious places but we have several illegal ones despite several religious places here. If they can remove illegal work from Kamla Mills, why not here?(sic)," said Ramesh Shah, resident of the area and joint secretary of TBRA.

"What they have done is reduced the chimney height, which is worse now," said Shiv Kanodia, another member of TBRA, who runs a shop in the area. "There does not seem to be any value of what the CM had said. He has not been giving us time for the past one year. We were sent to him after we wanted to meet the deputy municipal commissioner," added Kanodia.

The residents said they were upset with the commissioner's response. TBRA members said that by now someone else should have been in his place. The state government had announced his suspension in the floor of the House in the recent Assembly session.

"There is lot of nuisance due to these gold units. They play music in the night, stand half naked to queue up in toilets because toilets are few. The illegalities are visible even through naked eye and such activity should not be allowed in residential area," said Digambar Naykodi, another member of TBRA.

Jivak Ghegadmal, assistant municipal commissioner of C ward said, "They are mixing issues. There are no illegal restaurants here. Gold work is not more than few grams daily and that can possibly not create so much problem. There is a process and we have taken videos of action on 100 chimneys and cases are going on."
