Bhiwandi: demolition squad attacked

Four members of a demolition squad of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation were today seriously injured when they were attacked by a group of armed men in Bhiwandi town in the district, police said.

Police Sub-Inspector P S Khare of Bhoiwada police station said the squad had gone to Deoonagar locality of Narpoli in the town for pulling down an illegal structure.

Assistance Municipal Commissioner Raghunath Gungune, Office Superintendent Balaram Jadhav, Beat Officer Shakir Momin and Beat Officer Ramakanth Mhatre were injured when a mob beset them.

Islamuddin Kamruddin Ansari, the builder, and his goons attacked them, according to police.

Mohamad Arshad, one of the attackers, was arrested. Search was on for others.
