According to the police, major violence was triggered at Chembur, Ramabai Nagar, and Powai. Protesters first started misbehaving with people at Saki Naka, JVLR and Powai Garden. After a while, they started threatening and abusing commuters and pelted stones on the vehicles and on citizens. The police immediately rushed to stop them. However, the protesters started indulging in stone pelting on police vehicles and on policemen too. The police then used mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Following the Powai ruckus, In Chembur and Govandi too the police had to use force and resort to mild lathi charge at Amar Mahal, Rama Bai nagar to disperse the crowd. There was bad law and order situation in the Eastern suburbs.

Over two dozens cars were smashed at Vikhroli, Dahisar, Goregaon, Kandivali and Worli by the protesters. Police are likely to start a combing operation to identifying the miscreants.

So far 35 people have been taken into custody and process of identifying others is going on,” said Sachin Patil, Mumbai Police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police.

“The protest and rasta roko had affected traffic on the arterial roads since afternoon, and we diverted traffic from different routes. Worli Check Naka and Haji Ali were closed for traffic,” said a traffic police officer.
