A week after French national Madhuwanti Pathak (33) was murdered by her husband Girish Pote (35), photos and videos of her chopped up, nude dead body are making the rounds of smartphone messengers and the Internet. It should be noted that the pictures were clicked by the forensic team and police officers at the victim’s 14th floor flat in Nakshatra apartments, Bhayander.
The three photographs and a video have gone viral on WhatsApp and Blackberry Messenger, and have also been uploaded on various websites.
Pote had killed his wife Madhuwanti on December 3 and chopped her into pieces, allegedly because she wanted to sell her property in Mumbai and move to France with their two-year-old son.
As soon as the police got news of the murder, the media was barred entry into the residence.
Therefore, only the investigating team present at the crime scene could have taken the pictures and video and uploaded them.
“The pictures, which are in very bad taste, are being shared and talked about on Whatsapp and BBM. The point to be noted here is that apart from the police officers present in the flat at the time, no one else could have clicked the pictures of the dead body,” said Prabhakar Kudalkar, a mediaperson.
He added, “The photos, coupled with a video which shows the police putting together the body parts, is giving me sleepless nights. Senior police officers should take action against those who leaked the pictures. The guilty officers should be strictly dealt with in order to avoid future incidents of pictures — which are part of the evidence — from being leaked.”
Thane rural superintendent of police Anil Kumbhare said did not confirm whether any action will be taken against the erring officers. “I will look into the matter and comment only after I get adequate information about the incident,” Kumbhare said.
