Two days after the Kongaon police in Bhiwandi registered a case of cheating against five directors of Best Deal Television Private Limited, including actor Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, for allegedly cheating a Goregaon-based businessman to the tune of Rs 24 lakh, the police on Saturday recorded the statements of three courier firms who deposited money in the bank accounts of the home shopping channel after delivering products to customers.

These courier companies collected the products from vendors and delivered it to customers.

An FIR was registered on April 27, under sections 420(cheating), 406 (breach of trust) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code, against Raj Kundra alias Ripu Sudan Kundra, Shilpa Shetty, Darshit Shah, Uday Kothari and Vedant Bali. This was on a complaint by businessman Ravi Bhalotia, who alleged that Best Deal Television Private Limited failed to pay him money for products sold to them.

According to the police, Bhalotia has a manufacturing unit of bed sheets at MIDC in Bhiwandi. He allegedly sold bed sheets to customers through Best Deal Television Private Limited from July 2015 to August 2016. The complainant stated that despite repeated notices to the company, they failed to give him a proper response and defaulted on payments.

Vijay Deshmukh, Police Inspector, Kongaon police station said, “We have sent notices to the accused involved in the case and have recorded the statements from the courier firms. We also have documents pertaining to the transactions that have taken place between the complainant, courier firms and Best Deal TV Private Limited.”

“We are collecting evidence regarding the legal agreement between the complainant and Best Deal TV for transactions carried out by them,” said Deshmukh.

Raj Kundra, in a response to queries from DNA, stated, “We have not cheated anyone, all payments came to Best Deal TV. Unfortunately, with the company going into liquidation, it is now the job of the liquidator to decide who gets what. We are only following the law and cannot make preferential payments to anyone. I am no longer involved with the company.”
