The BJP has written to the state transport minister claiming that even though the central government had reduced fuel prices, its benefits have not percolated to the common man.
BJP spokesperson, Madhav Bhandari, wrote a letter to state transport minister Diwakar Raote on Friday, stating that goods and private passenger transporters were not letting citizens to reap the benefits of reduced fuel rates and asked the state government to intervene in the matter.
“Despite diesel prices coming down from Rs 62.21 in May 2014 to Rs 52 on February 15, 2015, transporters have not passed on the benefits to the common man and are continuing to rake profits,” he said, adding that if the diesel/petrol rates go up by even 10 to 20 paise, transport bodies hold the public to ransom and demand hike in their tariffs. “They don't show the same sincerity in reducing tariffs whenever the diesel and petrol rates come down. In the last few months, even CNG rates have come down. If the transporters had reduced their fares, the prices of milk and other essential supplies would have also come down," said Bhandari.
