A mentally ill woman cut the nerves of both hands of her six-year-old daughter resulting in the death of the girl. Dattawadi police arrested Shweta Patil and said that the woman was in a state of depression which triggered such actions against her daughter Akshara.

Inspector Rajendra Sahane of Dattwadi Police Station said, "Shweta came from America four years ago. Her husband Amit is a software engineer who wanted to go to America. In a few days, they had to go to Chennai for the visa interview. However, Shweta didn't want to go there. On Monday, when no one was at home, Shweta went to the kitchen with Akshara and cut the nerves of both her hands which bleed Akshara to death."

The girl was born in the United States, and hence a citizen of the country, because of which the news of her death has been shared with the US embassy. Akshara will be cremated only after legal procedures are completed. The Patil family is still in shock.

Police investigation revealed that Shweta and Amit had gone to the US immediately after the marriage ten years ago. They returned to Pune four years back. During this time, Shweta's parents died due to cancer after which her mental condition deteriorated. She was also undergoing treatment.

For a few months, Amit wanted to go to the US for a job again. Shweta, however, was always afraid of what would happen to her daughter. Would she have cancer? Such thoughts drove her stress further into depression.
