When police arrested a history sheeter for allegedly raping a Spaniard, they found this was not the first time he had targeted a woman after breaking in.

Anwar Mohammed Ismail Ansari alias Mohammed Badshah tops the Byculla police's most wanted criminal list as there are at least 10 house break-ins registered against him there.

Ansari, who was arrested in connection with breaking in a 27-year-old Spanish national's house in Bandra and raping her, was currently out on bail.

He had been arrested for breaking into actor Dino Morea’s residence on Leo Street in Bandra (West) on October 27 night.

A police source said: “In Morea’s case, the police recovered all the stolen items when Ansari was in their custody for two days. Hence, Ansari got judicial custody and got bail.”

On October 27, Ansari entered Morea's flat through a window. He sneaked into the bedroom where the actor was sleeping and stole a Rolex watch and two iPhones and cash totaling worth Rs12.8 lakh.

Morea lodged a complaint with the Bandra police the next day. The police traced Ansari using the tracker system installed in the iPhone and arrested him from his Reay Road residence that same night.

Ansari was kept in the police custody till October 30 and later was granted judicial custody and immediately got bail.

But he did not change his ways and within 10 days struck in three Bandra homes, including the Spanish national's, on Monday.

A history sheeter, Ansari has more than 28 cases of house break-ins registered against him at various police stations. Senior inspector LH Mathure of the Byculla police station said: "Ansari is adept in climbing pipes and breaking into houses. It is shocking that he has moved from robbery to rape."
