In a small lane in Bandra's Chuim village lies Garage 52—it isn't just a garage though. Garage 52 – The Moto Collective is your destination for everything and anything related to motorcycles.

Garage 52 undertakes motorcycle repairs and servicing, bike tours as well as restoring and building customised bikes. You can rent a tool bench and work on your bike yourself using the tools available at the garage. You can rent a bike or a scooter for a trip out of the town or even a parking space if you don't have one. Alternately, you can head over to simply gawk at the work that goes on or at the various motorcycles parked there. Garage 52 also conducts workshops, showcases motorcycle-related art and shows MotoGP screenings and motorcycle documentaries. They recently did an acoustic Sunday jam too.

That's a lot of activity under one roof but it's just how the founders want it to be. "In a city like Mumbai it is very hard to find everything under one roof – for servicing you go somewhere, for customisations you go elsewhere. We started this space so that we could get multiple people under the same roof and offer anything and everything related to motorcycles," says Joshua Crasto, part of the four-member team at Garage 52.

Garage 52 is a Moto Collective—a collaboration of some of the best and most popular names of the industry. Mario has spent 35 years in the industry; his father was one of the city's most established motorcycle mechanics. Mario undertakes restorations of vintage and classic motorcycles under the banner, Mario's Garage. Harsh Man Rai and Vir Nakai are the duo behind Helmet Stories, an adventure travel company that provides premium guided motorcycle adventure tours in India. Crasto himself has been an automotive journalist and an airline pilot, who now builds motorcycles and restores vintage bikes. The four of them together bring 52 years of experience and a solid and extremely loyal customer base.

The whole team is at the garage through the week; the garage turns into a full-fledged workshop from Monday to Saturday. The crew is ready to help you with basics like welding, electrical wiring and metal fabrication. Garage 52 opened up in May and has seen everyone, from motorcycle enthusiasts to curious teenagers, visit the space. "People from across India are coming to see the place. A garage of this sort has never been done before," says Crasto.

The 1000 sq. ft. space can be used for parking (charges are Rs. 1000 a week, Rs. 3000 a month). You can rent a ramp to work on your bike using tools and expertise of the founders (charges are Rs. 3000 for six turns or full working days).

"Many of us use a motorcycle not just as a means of commute but as a part of our life…a lifestyle, you could say. Garage 52 furthers that lifestyle and offers a chance to share it with others," says Crasto.
