The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday condoled the demise of Shiv Sena patriarch Balasaheb Thackeray and said he was a true patriot and a pioneer of the politics of Hindutva.
RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said: "His demise is a huge blow to the politics of Maharashtra and the entire nation as well as a significant loss to the politics of Hindutva.
"We pay our heartfelt homage to Balasaheb Thackeray. The sea of the people along with his deceased body in Mumbai shows the respect and love of the people he had earned," he added.
Bal Thackeray, who was critically ill for the past few days, passed away at his residence 'Matoshree' in suburban Bandra yesterday.
His funeral procession is on the way to Shivaji Park where thousands of workers and supporters of the Shiv Sena have been gathered to get last glimpses of their leader.
The last rites of the Shiv Sena chief will be performed at around 6 p.m. at Shivaji Park in Mumbai with full state honours.
