The Sessions Court dealing with the Kamala Mill fire issue rejected the bail applications of the owners of Kamala Mills last week, nullifying claims that they had no prior knowledge of the fire-safety violation by the owners of Mojo’s Bistro hotel which caught fire.
Additionally, the bail application of Fire Officer Rajendra Patil was also rejected stating that the hotel owners illegally bypassed fire-safety regulations with the help of Municipal officers.
Judge A L Yawalkar said in the order that prima facie, it is the case of the hotel owners having violated the municipal laws.
A major fire broke out at Kamala Mills on December 29 which claimed 14 lives and injured 55. The fire which broke out at Mojo’s Bistro spread to the surrounding hotels.
The investigation has revealed that the owners of the hotel acted hand in glove with the Municipal Officers and obtained permissions without qualifying the fire safety norms.
