To ensure that the future generations can cherish the Alexandra Girls' English Institution school's glorious past by not just browsing on the internet, but by documenting the school's journey via objects and memorabilia and letters from the present staff and students. The school is creating a time capsule to be opened on its bi-centennial celebration, 50 years later.

The institution will bury a time capsule at the foot of arches in the school on March 31. The capsule will record the school's history till date, objects and memorabilia and, letters from the present staff and students.

"We wanted to leave back the best memory for the people, who will be associated with the school 50 years later. So we decided to create a time capsule which will document our journey," said principal, Freny Mehta.

The time capsule made of 316L grade stainless steel, will be 2 ½ feet in length, 2 feet in depth and width. It will contain memorabilia made during the school's 150th anniversary, memories about the various milestones and also the school's current uniform and badge. "We are taking every possible care to ensure that the capsule stays in the best condition. We have used kadappa stone in the pit and will use coat sand while burying the capsule as it does not absorb moisture," said Mehta. The capsule will be dug out on September 1 2062, when the school completes 200 years.

However, it wasn't an easy task for the principal to realise her plans. "Time capsules are not common in India. There are a few in Gujarat but there aren't any in Maharashtra. When I researched online, there were options to register a time capsule only abroad. So we decided to make our own," said Mehta.
