Setting an example of honesty, an autorickshaw driver from Naigaon returned a bag full of gold ornaments to a woman who had left it behind in his vehicle on Wednesday.

Jayesh Patil, 27, ferried a middle-aged woman and her child to Naigaon station. The woman was in a hurry to board the train.

As she hopped out of the auto, she forgot to take the bag containing 10 tola gold chain, 2.5 tola chain and three gold rings and her cell phone which are collectively worth Rs5 lakh.

“The woman was in a hurry as she wanted to reach the venue of her sister’s marriage in Mumbai.

As I left the station, her cell phone began to ring. Then, I noticed the bag. I opened it to find the phone and the jewellery,” said Patil.

The woman realised on the platform that she had left behind her bag. She panicked and then went to a public telephone booth and dialled her cell phone number.

When the phone started ringing, Patil saw the forgotten bag. He opened the bag and picked up the call. He told the woman to collect the bag from Naigaon auto stand.

“My parents taught me to earn in a respectable manner. I teach the same to my kids,” he added.
