Auto driver held for 'assaulting' TV actress Sumona's father

The Powai police arrested an autorickshaw driver for allegedly assaulting the father of television actress of The Kapil Sharma Show fame Sumona Chakravarti. The victim received treatment at a private hospital after he was attacked at Andheri.

According to the police, victim Sujeet Chakravarti, was walking along the Hiranandani, Powai, and was on his way to Seven Hills Hospital when he tried to stop a rickshaw. But the driver refused to take a shorter distance fare and demanded extra money which led to a verbal argument between the duo, which soon turned into a brawl.

The driver also pelted stones at Chakravarti thereby injuring him. The victim was rushed to Seven Hills hospital, and was admitted for treatment for severe head injury.

"Chakravarti had remembered the auto's vehicle registration number after which we tracked down the driver and arrested him under sections 324 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.", said Anil Pophale, Senior Police Inspector, Powai police station.
