According to police, on June 12 the victim was returning home from her tution classes when an auto driver named Dhirendra Mehta, 26, allegedly dragged the girl inside his auto rickshaw and started moving towards Tata Power house in Dombivli.
A 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and molested by an auto driver and his friend. However, the girl managed to escape by jumping out of the moving auto rickshaw in Dombivli. The Manpada police have arrested the two accused.
According to police, on June 12 the victim was returning home from her tution classes when an auto driver named Dhirendra Mehta, 26, allegedly dragged the girl inside his auto rickshaw and started moving towards Tata Power house in Dombivli. A friend of Mehta, Manusingh Rajendra Singh, 20, forcibly got into the auto and allegedly started touching the private parts of the girl. When the girl tried to call for help the accused covered her mouth.
“Both the accused were keeping a watch on the girl and when they found a desolated spot they dragged her inside the auto and molested her,” said an officer. “When the girl saw her brother passing by, she started screaming for help but the accused tried to flee. The girl then pushed the molester and jumped out of the moving auto,” said a Manpada police officer. “The girl informed her brother and they later approached the police to file a complaint. We launched a manhunt and tried to match the description of the auto driver after which we nabbed him and later arrested his friend who was the co-passenger,” said the officer.
“We have arrested them under sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act. They have been remanded into police custody,” said Sukhada Narkar, PRO for Thane police department.
