Even as the ambitious mono rail facility is set to be commissioned this month-end, the city wing of national disaster management authority insisted better co-ordination amongst operators of the system, cops and the fire brigade in view of safety of the service.

The cell members, headed by BMC chief Sitaram Kunte, met on Thursday. During the meeting, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority made a presentation on its plan to tackle any untoward incident.

During the meet, the members discussed areas where safety aspects need to be improved. “There has to be proper co-ordination amongst the agencies involved as it is key during any crisis situation. We stressed on the measures during the meeting,” a senior civic official said.

To ensure proper co-ordination, the cell has insisted on linking control room of the mono/metro rail operators with those of the civic body and the police. There were also suggestions to keep a back up of BEST buses in case of dislocation of services on the routes.
