John, who was earlier booked under sections 326, 379 and 506 for causing grievous hurt, robbery and criminal intimidation, respectively, may now have to bear the brunt of the explosives act as well if the forensic report supports the police’s anticipation. "John has now been booked for attempt to murder following a supplementary statement of the victim, Aryanka Hosbetkar. She said his ultimate aim was to take her life," said Dhananjay Kulkarni DCP (Zone 5 ).
John was produced in the court on Monday for extension of his remand. "We have him in custody for two more days. We had pressed for an extended custody as the forensic reports are still pending. The reports on his laptop and phone as well as clarity on the nature of chemical used will help decide our future course of action," said investigating officer Bharat Bhoite.
It was earlier found that John’s attack on Hosbetkar had been a planned move. He had worked towards eliminating all evidence of differences between them as well as with the other women he was involved with. In his statement, John had confessed that he wanted to ruin Hosbetkar’s life. It was also revealed that he had threatened to kill Hosbetkar over their two to three month-long strained relationship.
