The Bombay High Court will scan unedited CCTV footage of the hospitals in Dhule and Thane where doctors were assaulted by relatives of patients, which later prompted resident doctors to go on strike.

The court has asked the government to provide CCTV footage from both hospitals by April 24, after which it will ascertain as to what provoked the assault. The court has also asked the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to improve the deplorable living conditions of resident doctors in hospitals and colleges.

Advocate Suresh Pakale, appearing for the civic body, informed the court that he had recently visited Sion and Nair hospitals along with the Deputy Municipal Commissioner and the dean of both hospitals. "Four doctors are made to stay in quarters meant for two. There is a serious lack of accommodation space."

The HC asked members of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), as well as state and BMC officials to inspect and report the deficiencies in accommodation, food, and other living conditions. Following which, the court may set up a committee to address the issue.

The government said it had already deputed over 300 security guards across ten hospitals, with a provision for more guards. According to a previous assurance, about 1,100 guards were promised in hospitals across the state.
