Asked to step down from ladies coach, drunk RPF men thrash GRP constable

A Government Railway police bore the brunt of stopping two drunk Railway Police Force (RPF) constables from entering the ladies compartment as he was allegedly assaulted by them at the Vasai platform.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), constable Kamlesh Rathod, 32, a resident of Bordi, was posted at Vasai GRP and in the ladies coach at night when two RPF constables boarded the ladies coach at Naigoan. Upon being asked to get down, the men, one identified as Deepak Rathod, 33 a resident of Nalasopara, and his accomplice allegedly pulled the GRP constable down and thrashed him.

"We arrested Rathod under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 510 (misconduct in public place by a drunken person), 504 (intentional insult), 34 (common intent) of the IPC and under relevant sections of the Indian Railways Act," said a Vasai GRP official.

"When we produced him before the railway court, he was released on bail. We are yet to arrest the other RPF official and are investigating further, as a cross complaint was also registered against the GRP constable," added the official.
