ASI was depressed, kin blames police department and commissioner of police

The kin of ASI Dilip Shirke attached to Vakola police station has blamed the Mumbai police department for the suicide. According to Shirke's son Abhishek, the ASI was under depression after there was an inquiry started by the Mumbai police department recently over leaves that Shirke had taken in 2012. Due to this, his increment was also stopped for the last few months, said his kin. "My father had taken 70 days leave in 2012 as he was suffering from bronchital illness. His leaves were not immediately sanctioned. He had to stand in front of the office of the then ACP and DCP for hours together to get it sanctioned, said Abhishek, 26, a student of TY Bcom.

Recently, he was called by his superiors who told him that an inquiry has been set up against him on account of the leaves he took. "He was very depressed about it. His increments were cancelled. He was treated badly by his superiors."

Abhishek added that he was on duty on saturday night. "The commissioner is lying. He is trying to protect his department. Shirke had a service revolver with him because he was on duty and he was patrolling in combat vehicle, added Abhishek. 

He also added that Shirke, after his duty had attended a wedding in the morning and came back in the afternoon. He was upset over the claim made by his seniors that he was not on duty, said Abhishek. Shirke, 56 , was to retire in 2017.

Shirke's body is in V N Desai hospital. He is survived by his wife Deepti, son Abhishek, daughters Shruti, 22 and Pranoti, 26. He lived in Kalina police colony.
