Gangster-turned-builder Ashwin Naik and another person have been arrested by the NM Joshi Marg police for allegedly threatening a 52-year-old man to vacate his flat. Naik was produced in the court on Thursday.

He was granted bail on a cash bond of Rs 15,000.

According to the police, complainant Prakash Vasant Patkar had bought a flat in the E-wing of Sambhaji Nagar area on NM Joshi Marg at Lower Parel from one Mohan Ramchandra Pawar two years ago.

The other arrested person, Ashok Jadhav, who is the secretary of the housing society, was not transferring the ownership of the flat in Patkar's name. A week ago, when Patkar again requested Jadhav to do so, he was threatened to vacate the flat soon. Jadhav even claimed that he was in touch with a gangster, the police said.

"Patkar alleged in his complaint that Jadhav called on his mobile number on March 15 and asked him to vacate the flat. But when Patkar refused to do so, Jadhav told him to talk to Ashwin Naik," said a police officer.

"Naik then reportedly threatened Patkar saying that if he did not vacate the flat he would shoot him," said senior PI Shankar Rajput of NM Joshi Marg police station.

Patkar then approached the police and lodged a complaint against Jadhav and Naik. "Following the complaint, we verified the facts and arrested Jadhav on Wednesday and Naik on Thursday," said Rajput.

"Naik was produced in the court and was granted bail on a surety of Rs15,000" added Rajput.
