In a tragic incident, a 65-year-old man from Ulwe kept struggling for life for nearly 15 hours inside his flat, probably after suffering a stroke. Surprisingly, despite knowing that he was critical, none of the neighbours took any step to save his life by informing a doctor. In fact, they did not even have the courtesy to call the local police.

The NRI police learnt about the senior citizen's nightmare, after dna of navi mumbai informed them on Friday morning. What is more surprising, the police also took nearly two hours to reach the spot after they were informed. Finally, the ambulance was called in the afternoon and the man was taken to NMMC hospital in Vashi.

Jamshed Ali has been staying alone in the rented flat at Unnati CHS at sector 19 of Ulwe since six months. While his younger brother runs a travel agency in the United States, some family members are based in Australia.

"After staying for several years in Virar, Ali moved to Ulwe. One family from the same building provided him food on daily basis," said Jeevan Chakraborty, his real estate agent.

On Thursday evening, when some of his neighbours knocked his door, Ali did not respond. The neighbours could see him lying on the floor and taking long breath through the keyhole. "When I reached the building on Friday morning, I tried to open to door, but to no avail. Then I called one of his brother's friend who stays in Mumbai and narrated the entire episode," Chakraborty added.

When dna of navi mumbai got to know about the incident, the reporter informed senior policemen within a few seconds. This reporter also provided Ali's address and number of Chakraborty. Despite that, NRI cops took nearly two hours to reach.

The police broke open the door and found Ali lying at an extremely critical condition on the floor. "The doctors have started his treatment. However, it is too early to say what happened to him on Thursday night, as he was alone. We hope he will be alright in a few hours," said Arvind Sankhe, sub-inspector from NRI police station.

Ali's brother's friend – Devasish Roy – who stays at Peddar Road also reached the hospital and is now coordinating with the doctors.
