Aspiring film producer Karan Kakkar, 28, reportedly goes missing from his Oberoi Springs residence in Lokhandwala area of Andheri (W). His elder brother Hanish and mother come to Mumbai from Delhi and lodge a complaint with the Amboli police.

Shinde, Gajkosh and the mastermind behind Tikku’s murder Vijay Palande arrested from Bandra and Chiplun. Palande escapes from police custody and is caught late in the night. Later, Palande’s distant relative and crime branch inspector Sanjay Shinde shunted to administration department.

Palande’s wife, Simran Sood, arrested for her alleged role in Kakkar’s kidnapping.
April 14
Kakkar’s BMW, in which he is believed to have been kidnapped, traced to Kondwa. The car was spotted near Krishna Kewal building and was with Palande’s relative Rahul Mane.
April 16
Police find Kakkar’s body in the Kumbharli Ghat near Satara-Goa Road.

Gurudutt Jaidev, a businessman from Karnataka and the owner of the Mercedes, traced. He tells the police that he came in contact with Palande through a common friend and that Palande had forcibly taken his vehicle.

Stockbroker Gautam Vora arrested for helping Palande. He was the boyfriend of supermodel Viveka Babajee, who allegedly committed suicide in 2010.

More body parts (a torso) believed to be of Kakkar found in Kumbharli Ghat.

The police recover a blood-stained chopper and a sickle from Kumbharli Ghat and send it for forensic analysis. The police also recover Kakkar’s Samsung Galaxy Tab phone, which too, was stolen after his murder.

A dozen live cartridges seized from Simran Sood’s Oshiwara house. An offence under the Arms Act registered against Palande.

Amboli police station sub-inspector, Saifuddin Sheikh, suspended. Sheikh was the first investigating officer in the Karan Kakkar case after his parents lodged a compliant on April 5

DNA reports of the body parts found in Kumbharli Ghat near Chiplun show the recovered torso matched with that of Kakkar’s relative’s DNA, the skull didn’t match. The crime branch booked Palande for a fresh case of murder of an unknown person.
