The case against Japjeev Chaddha, who impersonated Union minister Arun Jaitley's son, has become bigger. Arrested by the city's crime branch for attempting to dupe a bank into increasing his loan's credit limit by using union minister Arun Jaitley's name, the 28-year-old accused had also duped two casinos in Goa in August using similar modus operandi where he used up Rs10 lakh credit in each of the two casinos. Casino owners would now be made witnesses in the case.

"Some time in August, Chaddha called two casinos in Goa claiming to be Rohan, son of union minister of defence and finance Arun Jaithley. Chaddha told the owners that a friend of his wanted to play in their casinos and that he would be obliged if the friend can be given credit to gamble," said a crime branch officer.

According to the officer, within one day, Chaddha took a flight to Goa and claiming to be Rohan's friend, gambled in two casinos on Rs10 lakh credit each and lost the money. "The casino owners wrote emails to the office of Jaitley stating that they had entertained Rohan's friend and gave him credit to play in their casinos. The ministry replied back stating that Rohan never made such requests and that this could be a fraud," the officer said.

The police stumbled upon two mobile phone numbers of Chaddha, one of which was being used by him, under the guise of Rohan Jaitley. "Call detail analysis of both the numbers revealed that both were being used at the places of offence by Chaddha at the same time. Chaddha's father, who is a businessman was shocked with his son's arrest," said the officer.
