No longer do you have to walk into a museum to admire a great piece of art. A Mumbai-based organisation called 'Artist at Work Productions' (AAW) is now bringing art to the streets. On September 6, AAW conducted an extraordinary event called "No Walls: Art Mob" in Bandra with the sole purpose of translating passive art found in galleries to active art by displaying it live on streets.

Every artist struggles to get their art out to the masses. Instead of waiting for the traditional process of being recognised and then displaying their talent, this organisation has inverted the system. They took their art out on the streets, displayed it and got the artists recognised for their talent with a heartwarming applaud for their innovative idea.

Artist at Work Productions, which started off as a mere idea amongst a few friends in Delhi, had a grand launch with its first event "No Walls", an art mob - like a flash mob - that enticed the Bandra residents.

The art mob stems from anything that you interpret as art; graphic design, fine arts, dance, music, theatre, and photography. Their showcase included fresh talent of artists, theatre performers and even local singers.

This event stood out as their objective was to provide a platform for each and every artist who needs to connect with the world out there. Amla Pisharody, one of the organisers, said, “We want to create awareness about all types of art forms and not limit ourselves to singing, dancing or painting.”

The target audience that the organisation aimed to attract was anyone and everyone. The event, held over two hours from Hill Road to Carter Road in Bandra, attracted thousands of locals. “We had audiences from different strata of society in absolute awe of the talent that our artists had on display.”

The response to the event was overwhelming to the organisation, as every bystander inquisitively approached the artists to enquire and appreciate their work. “There was a large group of college students and they were so impressed with the music on display that there was a wave of demands for the singer to play various songs,” said organiser Rupika Khere.

Gaining appreciation for the unique initiative, the organisation is growing as a platform for any local artist who has something to share. Welcoming more talent, AAW has an on going project called “Voice of Art”, which features new artists on their Facebook page. With the success of “No Walls”, the AAW aims to conduct many more similar initiatives.
