It was a double whammy for Thane crime branch when they caught three criminals for vehicle theft who also turned out to be murderers. The trio confessed to murder of two men in the past and the cops are now expecting more skeletons to tumble out from their closets.

On October 4, Thane crime branch arrested - Yunus Akhmal Sheikh from Mumbra, Raju Pradeep Singh from Shil-Daighar, and Bablu Chaurasia from Golavali, Dombivli in connection with vehicle theft from Kopri. "While they were in our custody, we learnt from our informer that the trio are known as `killer gang' among Bangladeshis, and were involved in the murder of one Sami-ul in 2012. They used to visit Bangladesh, bring poor girls to Thane and push them into flesh trade or set them up in bars as waitresses," said a cop from Thane crime branch.

The trio also had one more partner Mohan alias Sanatan Burman, who would also supply girls to them for running their prostitution racket. Burman had Sami-ul to work under him, and killed him in October 2012. "Burman suspected that Sami-ul was a police informer, and so, with the aid of the trio, he hatched the plan to kill him," said the cop.

All four of them called Sami-ul near Casa Bella, Palava city, Dombivli for a drink. "Later, they took him near the railway track at Dombivli, strangulated him, and disposed his body into the nearby creek. When we inquired with the Manpada police, they said that in February 2015 they found Sami-ul's skeleton from inside the creek," added the cop.

Upon further inquiry, the cops learnt that during 2014 Ganeshotsav, they had murdered one more accomplice named Noorjaman. "Noorjaman fled away with money and one of the girls they had pushed into prostitution. So they sweet talked Noorjaman in to meet them at a ground behind a ladies bar in Manpada, Dombivli, where they hit him on his head with a beer bottle and Burman slit his throat. The body was disposed off in a creek and the trio were arrested in the case," said the cop. "They served jail sentence for a year in this murder case, and were later let out on bail," added cop.

Yunus and Burman have cases under PITA (Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act) against them at Manpada police station. "This gang has seven to eight members, and we are on the lookout for the rest. We are confident that during investigation, we will get to know of more such murder cases," said the cop. Burman is absconding, while the trio are in judicial custody. They will be handed over to Manpada police for further investigation.
