Cuffe Parade police have filed a chargesheet against the army man and his wife in the death of two kids. While the man was teaching his wife how to drive a car, the vehicle had mowed down two kids living in Navy Nagar to death in December 2016.

On December 12, the boys, Akshansh, 13, and Abhay Dhyani, 7, were on their bicycles and were crossing the road when the car hit them. The woman had panicked seeing the two coming in the way, and had to apply the accelerator instead of the brake.

Cuffe Parade police then arrested Sangita Kumar Rai who was driving the car, and her husband Santosh, who works at the EME workshop at Navy Nagar.

Police recently have filed around 300 pages of chargesheet in the Court, and to make the case watertight, have attached a confessional statement, a report from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) that's ruling out any glitch in the vehicle being cited as a defence one at a later stage. Police have also claimed that the couple had bought the car very recently and there is no chance of any fault in the car.
Apart from that, police have also attached statements of half a dozen witnesses of the incident.

According to police, Sangeeta Rai, wife of Lance Naik Santoshkumar was practicing her driving, without a license, with her husband seated beside her on a Sunday afternoon.

Sangeeta did not spot two brothers, Akshansh, 13, and Abhay Dhyani, 7, and instead of applying the brakes, she pressed the accelerator and went on to hit the cycle on which they were riding, killing them on the spot.

Police, however, have also mentioned in the chargesheet that, after the mishap, the couple first informed the defence staff about the mishap and did not make any attempts to flee. They wanted to report the matter to the police themselves.

Police have chargesheeted the couple under the sections of Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving and punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under.
