A month after DN Bhong, senior police inspector of APMC police station, was transferred to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allegedly 'flouting the guidelines of Election Commission', the station is yet to get a new senior police inspector.

What's more, the police station has only one police inspector, while three of its police inspectors, including Bhong, were transferred elsewhere.

After being on leave for more than a week, Bhong finally joined the security cell of RBI at CBD Belapur, albeit reluctantly. "As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, any officer due for retirement in the next six months, should be exempted from transfer. Bhong is due to retire on May 31 and his transfer therefore, was a complete violation of the guidelines . All of us were shocked when we learnt about his transfer on February 28," said a police officer from APMC police station.

Apart from Bhong, PI (crime) Vivek Lawand and PI (administration) Maya More were also transferred from the APMC police station. While Lawand was transferred to the state CID, More joined as the senior inspector at Rabale MIDC police station. The police station, however, got only one police inspector, BB Gaikar, as replacement to these three officers.

"We've been grappling with the lack of officials for past several months now. The scenario has further deteriorated, as we have got only one officer as a replacement to three of our officers. We are in need of additional manpower for the detecting the rising crimes," said another police officer.

"With elections fast approaching, our workload has increased manifold in the last one month. We don't know why have not been provided with the required manpower. We hope the senior officers look into the matter and take requisite measures soon," he added.

Fateh Singh Patil, additional commissioner of police of Navi Mumbai, said, "We may provide them some officials as assistance during the elections, but the new inspectors will come after the elections only. They may take guidance from the ACP and DCP in maintaining law and order during the elections."
