In a major legal and administrative reform, the state government will set up a committee to evaluate the existing laws, government resolutions and schemes, and scrap them if they are obsolete. This will do away with legal provisions which are not in consonance with present times.

The measure to repeal antiquated laws is on lines of a similar initiative taken by the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. The erstwhile Atal Bihari Vajpayee government too had taken measures in this regard.

In his budget speech, finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that Maharashtra had around 459 laws, 41,479 government resolutions and 1,256 schemes.

"The government will set up an Evaluation Committee as pilot project to evaluate the presently existing acts, governments resolutions and schemes to classify them and remove if unwanted," said Mungantiwar.
