Anti-Terrorism Squad arrests 3 with Rs1.40 lakh fake currency notes

Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) sleuths have arrested three people with over Rs1.40 lakh fake Indian currency notes. The officers have recovered the PAN cards and railway tickets to Delhi from the accused and are investigating whether they have any links with any terrorist organisation.

The arrested trio has been identified as Mohammad Suber Moosa Malik Sheikh, 38, Bakhtiyar Alam Namzul Hoda alias Raj, 20 and Mohammaad Nazir Mohammad Masiuj Alam, 28.

According to ATS sources, they had received specific information that Sheikh and his associates have been instrumental in circulating bogus Indian currency notes in the market and would be arriving near Ramdev Hotel opposite national park in Borivli (W) on Saturday.

Subsequently, a trap was laid and the trio was apprehended. The police found 51 notes of Rs1,000 denomination from Sheikh, 45 of Rs1,000 denomination from Hoda and 40 of Rs1,000 denomination from Alam. The police are on the lookout for Sheikh's three other accomplices identified as Ibrahim Sheikh, Tariq and Abdul Jalil, sources said.

"We have seized PAN cards, mobile phones and some railway tickets to Delhi from the accused. We are investigating further about the source of these notes and whether the arrested have any links with terrorist organisations," said an ATS officer.
