Anti-hacking apps can keep your phone safe

If you feel someone is snooping into your cell phone, defence applets are your best bet.

“Defence applets can track hidden bugs in your phone that can monitor your activity. Nearly 30% of all smartphone users are opting for defence applets,” an ethical hacker said.

On September 11, dna reported that a team of IT experts and ex-policemen have started www.mobicid.com, a website from where one can buy a mobile applet that doubles as a tracking device.

“A defence applet blocks tracking applets from relaying information, such as your SMSes, e-mails and phone records. Also, if you suspect your phone is being monitored, you can approach a mobile repairer to ‘jailbreak’ (in case of iPhone) or ‘route’ (in case of Android) your phone. This will help detect all hidden applets and bugs ,” he explained.

However, defence applets aren’t easily available on search engines like Yahoo or Google. Nonetheless, if a person suspects that their phone is being monitored, s/he can approach the cyber crime cell or IT experts for help.

“If anyone is obtaining illegal access to someone’s cell phone, it is considered hacking under the Information and Technology Act. A person who suspects their privacy is being violated can approach the cyber crime branch of Mumbai police,” said Nandkishore More, senior police inspector, cyber crime police station at BKC.
