With the city struggling for parking spaces, the phase I of the Mumbai’s coastal road project may come as a respite. The stretch from Marine drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link will soon make space for more parking lots. The stretch will also have three interchanges at Breach Candy, Haji Ali and Worli sea face. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has managed to reclaim around 70 hectares of land to build multiple entry and exit points at the three interchange areas. These areas will include three parking lots along with other public facilities. These parking lots will be able to accommodate approximately 2,660 vehicles.

Apart from this, the civic body will also undertake beautification of the area. A promenade, garden, walkway, and a cycling track is on the cards. The first interchange will be at Amarsons garden in Breach Candy, where 26 hectares of land will be reclaimed and can accommodate approximately 345 cars. The second interchange will be at Haji Ali, where 23.5 hectares of land will be reclaimed and can accommodate approximately 1,600 cars. The third and last interchange will be at Worli, where 18.5 hectares of land will be able to provide parking for at least 715 cars, an official source told DNA. The construction of the project’s phase 1 is expected to begin from November this year.
