Three members of a gang who were arrested by the VP Road police for their alleged role in the murder of a youth at Marine Drive after sodomising him, have claimed they committed a similar crime in the infamous Shakti Mills, where a young photojournalist was gangraped in 2013. They allegedly sodomised a youth in the deserted mill, cut off his head and dumped his body parts in different places in 2011.

According to senior inspector Suresh Kilje of VP Road police station, Rajkumar Rapannan alias Kalianna, 23, Sunil Kumar, 30, and Vishal Padghan, 30 had admitted during interrogation that they had committed a murder in 2011 in Shakti Mills.

"In September 2011, the arrested trio had along with three associates Siraj, Raj Chikna alias Mustafa and Karan had taken turns to sodomise a youth called Vicky. After committing the crime, they claimed to have stabbed Vicky with a knife and then chopped off his head. They then dumped the head and other body at different places," said Kilje.

Interestingly, one Siraj alias Sarju Rehman Khan was also arrested by the NM Joshi Marg police for his involvement in one of the Shakti Mills gang-rapes in 2013. The police however, could not confirm if the Siraj wanted in the 2011 case was the same one involved in the gang-rape as well.

When the VP Road police made inquiries with the NM Joshi Marg police in this regard, the latter informed them that in 2011, they had registered a case of murder and causing destruction of evidence.

"We had arrested few people in the 2011 case and had also filed a chargesheet in the court. If the suspects held by the VP Road police claim that they too were involved in that case, we will certainly take them into custody and interrogate them further. We will also question them to ascertain whether they had any links those accused arrested in Shakti Mills gang-rapes," said senior inspector Ajay Patankar of NM Joshi Marg police station.
