The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has granted another extension for the financial bidding of the proposed green field Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) as it received only one bid till January 25, after an extension of 15 days was granted on January 9, 2017.

The four bidders had to submit financial bids for the Rs 16,500 crore NMIA project by 3pm on Wednesday. However, only the GVK group-led Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) submitted its financial offer for the project.
Three other shortlisted bidders GMR Group, Tata Realty and the Hiranandani Group-Zurich Airport consortium did not turn up in the bidding.

Mohan Ninawe, senior public relation officer of Cidco said, “We have given another extension for the financial bidding. Now, all the four bidders can submit their bids upto February 13, 2017.”

However, he added that February 13 would be the last extension and there would be no further extension further. Before the third extension granted on Wednesday, a first extension was granted on November 5, 2016, and a second on January 9, 2017.

In November, Cidco had granted a two-month extension for the financial bids of NMIA after all four players who are in fray, namely GMR Delhi, GVK-led Mumbai International Airport, Zurich airport with Hiranandani Developers and MIA Infrastructure of France, along with Tata Realty had sought more time. Now, these consortium can submit the financial bids upto February 13.

The bidding process of the proposed NMIA was announced on February 5, 2014. However, it was delayed for various reasons from getting environment clearances to land acquisition.

Ninawe said, “The date for submitting the financial bid has been extended as bidders sought more time, however, there has not been any change in the deadline for completion of Phase I of the project, which is December 2019.
