Angry, stubborn devotee bites 70-year-old man's ear, assaults cop

According to police, The accused Shivaji Salunkhe, 40 a resident of Wagle Estate on Monday evening visited Swayambhu Amarnath Temple at Shree Nagar in Thane West when he insisted the temple priest to let him allow inside the temple with his shoes on and without standing in the queue. The temple witnesses large number of devotees during Mahashivratri and a long queue of devotees.

On Mahashivratri, a 40 years Thane man landed into trouble after his 'taandav' outside Shiv temple by allegedly biting a 70 years old senior citizen and assaulting a police official led to a major brawl leading to his arrest. The 40 years old accused was angry and stubborn after he was denied entry into the temple with shoes and without standing in the queue.

According to police, The accused Shivaji Salunkhe, 40 a resident of Wagle Estate on Monday evening visited Swayambhu Amarnath Temple at Shree Nagar in Thane West when he insisted the temple priest to let him allow inside the temple with his shoes on and without standing in the queue. The temple witnesses large number of devotees during Mahashivratri and a long queue of devotees.

The complainant and the victim police official Tausifkhan Pathan was patrolling the streets when he witnessed the drama outside the temple as he intervened only to be assaulted by the accused while a Baburao Patil,70 a devotee standing in the queue was bitten by Salunkhe on his ear and his right hand.

"We tried to intervene and asked him to stand in the queue as other devotees were waiting for the darshan but he was stubborn and angrily started creating a scene amidst the crowd and when police intervened he assaulted them too and was repeatedly screaming that he will show his taandav if he is stopped to enter the temple", said the priest of the temple.

"We have arrested him under section 353(assaulting a public servant from conducting his duty), 324(voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 323(voluntarily causing hurt), 427(mischief causing damage),504(intentional insult) and 506(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code", said PS Chavan, investigating officer, Shree Nagar Police station.
