Andheri hosts exhibition of exotic birds and animals

The exhibition is organised with the help of Bhavans Nature and Adventure Centre, which runs as an orphanage for wounded animals.

Citizens will be able to see exotic species of birds in a first of its kind exhibition of birds and animals, World of Pets, at Bhavans College in Andheri from April 27 to May 1.

Through this exhibition, citizens will also be able to gain more information on how to keep pets at home, their upkeep, habits, the ways of handling, their likelihood to diseases and the environment they like to be.

The exhibition is organised with the help of Bhavans Nature and Adventure Centre, which runs as an orphanage for wounded animals. More than 200 species of animals and birds will be on display at the exhibition for the first time in the city.

As per the organisers, the exhibition will witness more than 120 exotic species of birds from Africa, Australia, China and other countries along with information about the origin of the birds, their eating and living habits.

Himanshu Prem, Head of Department, Bhavans Nature and Adventure Center, said, "Not only the birds, but the beautiful exotic goats, guinea pigs and 5-ft tall emu are some of the other animals to be exhibited. 

The exhibition will also have a message about avoiding plastic and plastic products for decoration in home aquariums and fish tanks. To spread the message, the exhibition will have more than 30 such mini aquariums decorated with real trees. There will be more than 30 species of sea fish on show as well."

Animal Friends Welfare Association will be assisting in imparting the information. The exhibition will also have Persian cats, information about their friendly habitat and 10 to 15 more such species in the exhibition.

Some of the other species visitors can look forward to are African parrots, multicolour birds of Kanoor species, palm-sized love birds, finches with their multiple species, and colourful exotic chickens. It will also have have a stall to impart information about the bird orphanage and the care taken at the Centre. Besides it, the exhibition will also have a medicinal plants garden and butterfly garden on show.
