Two persons died on the spot while five others were injured seriously in a freak mishap involving a car on the Nandgaon road here this morning. Ramcharan Daduram Khupase (65), a resident of Arjun Nagar here, and the car driver Anand Bapat (54), a resident of Giripeth, Nagpur, were killed, while Manohar Wankhade, Varsha Wankhade, Gunjan Wankhade, Sandeep Thokare (all residents of Arjun Nagar) and Hemant Satpute of Nagpur were injured.
According to police, Bapat and his friend Hemant Satpute were heading towards Amravati in a Ford Icon, while the Wankhade family was travelling in an Indica, heading towards Wadhona Papad. Bapat lost control and the car hit Ramcharan Khupase, who was out for a morning walk. It then hit the road divider and toppled to the other side, hitting the Indica coming from the opposite direction. Both Bapat and Khupase died on the spot.
