Amitabh Bachchan inaugurates Road Safety Week, raises concerns

Actor Amitabh Bachchan will soon ask Mumbaikars to avoid rash driving and also think twice before jumping signals or riding a motorcycle without helmet, as part of traffic awareness campaign being planned by the Mumbai Traffic Police. Bachchan who is known to share his concerns over the increasing lack of traffic discipline in Mumbai said that he was keen to work with the traffic police towards creating awareness.

"If my face and voice can help sell noodles or cement I feel its my duty to help create awareness about traffic related issues. Am concerned over the rising number of accidents as well as the general lack of traffic discipline. I offer all my help to the traffic department and would be keen to work with them on campaigns," he said while inaugurating the 28th Road Safety Week at NCPA on January 9, Monday.

In fact the actor also questioned whether those teaching young people to drive were themselves qualified to do so. Praising the efforts of Mumbai traffic police the actor also mentioned that how he was impressed by the Mumbai Traffic Police App and he immediately downloaded it and that he would post pictures of those violating traffic rules.

Joint Commissioner, Traffic Milind Bharambe said that the traffic department is contemplating a series of videos featuring Bachchan. "We want to bring down road fatalities and also ensure that there is sensible driving on the roads and BigB would be the perfect brand ambassador to create awareness," he said. Meanwhile traffic officials also claimed that there was some hope as Mumbai witnessed lesser number of fatal accidents last year as compared to 2015.
