Maharashtra assembly elections: Amit Shah takes stock

The BJP national president Amit Shah was in Mumbai for a day-long visit on Saturday to take stock of the preparations being done by the state leaders. Shah met prominent leaders of all the BJP-ruled states, union ministers, state BJP core committee members and office bearers of various committees and entrusted them specific responsibility for the upcoming assembly election.

After reaching Mumbai in the morning, Shah headed to Mumbai BJP headquarters for a series of back-to-back meetings, taking only a small break for lunch. Shah's visit is seen as an attempt to boost the morale of state leaders and party cadres to ensure that they reach out to all the voters, especially when the party is at loggerheads with it's oldest ally, the Shiv Sena.

Shah wanted to stress on few specific points, spoke about organisational skills and guided spokespersons and media cell members. "As everyone knows the nature of Amitbhai, there was no unnecessary talks in the meeting and issues were discussed in detail. He was very clear with what he wanted from each of the members. Each union ministers, chief ministers of BJP ruled states and senior leaders are entrusted with the responsibilities of regions and individual constituencies," said a senior BJP functionary.

He added that Shah has given an important role to media cell and media spokespersons. "During Lok Sabha elelctions too, the media cell had played a very crucial role. Shah has also cautioned them about dealing with the media. For Amitbhai, there's no scope of mistakes. He plans his strategy meticulously and takes care of each minute details and expects people to follow it with perfection," said a party source.

Sources said that senior leaders and union ministers like Piyush Goyal, Manoj Sinha, Dharmendra Pradhan, Prakash Jawadekar, minister of textiles Santosh Gangwar, minister of agriculture Radha Mohan Singh, and senior leaders from Chhattisgarh, Karnatak, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh were present.
