Mumbai traffic police had a dual task to perform this rainy season. Not only were they busy in tackling the troublesome traffic scenario in the city due to water-logging, they were also prompt in nipping the rumours in bud before they could get viral.

"Around 12:45 pm rumours were doing rounds on social media that Bandra-Worli Sea Link has been closed down after which we took help of media to spread the message that the said information was not true. Four hours later another rumour that Elphinstone Bridge has been shut for traffic surfaced. We appeal to the citizens not to panic and believe in these rumours," said a traffic police officer.

While rumours were spreading like wildfire, heavy rainfall and waterlogging brought traffic to a halt in most places. At around 12 pm on Tuesday, there was heavy traffic at Western Express Highway (WEH). Traffic moved at a snail's pace at Hindmata and King's Circle, while Eastern Express Highway (EEH) had smooth traffic flow till Sion Circle, and then there was traffic snarl then onwards.

Waterlogging was reported at Parel TT near Gauri Shankar, Hindmata, King's Circle, Chembur VN Purav Road and Naigaon Cross Road.

Afternoon traffic was slow starting at Dadar TT up to Kotwal Garden. It was also slow in N.C. Kelkar Road, Sena Bhavan, Hindmata junction, Gandhi Market, BA Road, SCLR, BKC junction and Raza junction.
