From the next academic session onwards, all schools students will have a standard leaving certificate, as per the instructions issued by the education department on September 19.

Leaving certificate is one of the important documents for a school student. The education department had long been mulling over making it a standardised document for all schools.

After taking into account opinions of parents and principals regarding details on the leaving certificate, the education department officials came to the conclusion that there should be one format of leaving certificates across the state.

Next year onwards, students from all schools will have the same leaving certificate, with details including the student's name, address, religion and unique identification number (UID).

Uday Nare, teacher at Andheri-based Hansraj Morarji Public School, said, "Every school has a different pattern of leaving certificate, which sometimes do not provide all details. Hence, we welcome the education department's move of introducing a strandardised pattern in all schools."

Meanwhile, deputy director of school education, BB Chauhan, said, "Some schools used to mention only religion, which prevented the category students from getting benefits in future. Hence, the education department has come up with one format. This leaving certificate pattern will be issued in all all board schools."
